The Amy Winehouse Foundation

News Letter:  NHS National Treatment Agency for Substance Abuse (NTA)

Since the tragic death of Amy Winehouse earlier this summer, the late singer's father has expressed concern about the provision of drug treatment services for young people.

Mitch Winehouse has also lobbied ministers and government officials about his plans to set up a foundation in his daughter's memory to help young people in need.

This culminated in a meeting last month with both Andrew Lansley, the Health Secretary, and Anne Milton, the Public Health Minister who is responsible for drug treatment and recovery.

The Department of Health said: "Ministers met with the Amy Winehouse Foundation and discussed a number of areas where, working together, we could make a real difference to young people's lives."

NTA representatives attended all the talks, and we are committed to supporting the government in taking forward this agenda. For this reason, the NTA has declined a number of bids from the media to make comments or give broadcast interviews in response to Mr Winehouse's concerns.

Paul Hayes, NTA chief executive, said: "Mitch Winehouse has raised a number of issues, both in meetings and in the media, and we would be very happy to continue to engage with him in further private discussion as the Amy Winehouse Foundation develops its ambitions."
