Eating disorders - Useful resources

Useful resources

Eating disorders can cause untold pain for the sufferer and for their family. There are many organisations that can help. Please see our eating disorder treatments page for options through NHS and private, however for other areas of help these resources can be very valuable:

• BEAT BEAT is the leading UK charity for people with eating disorders and their families. There is a range of services available including an excellent website (type BEAT into your search engine), support lines for young people and carers and a service directory which includes both NHS eating disorder services and individual therapists. BEAT also does extensive lobbying to raise awareness of eating disorders.

Uncovered magazine issue 3 gives an 11 page special on eating disorders and includes articles on lesser known eating disorders, features with advice specifically for men and provides a real life account of anorexia.

• The British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapy (BABCP) The BABCP website is a useful place to gain more information about Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies. This includes a list of trained CBT therapists available in your local area.
