Kerry Katona Big Brother - is her mental health too fragile?

Is Kerry Katona too mentally fragile for Big Brother?

By Liz Lockhart

Kerry Katona was the first person to enter the house in Celebrity Big Brother and it wasn’t long before she caused controversy yet again.  She only had to set foot on the walkway to the house to cause a stir with her ‘over the top’ evening gown and a hairstyle that rivaled Jedward.

Anyone who watched  Kerry Katona  during her ‘infamous’ interview with Phil and Fern on ‘This Morning’ will know that Kerry has had some serious problems with various addictions.  During this interview she appeared to be out of it either through drink or drugs.  At the time she claimed that it was her medication that made her incoherent. Her yo-yo battle with spiraling weight gain followed by dramatic weight loss have caused concerns about her self-esteem and body image.

In a report in The People Kerry’s mother is said to be worried about her daughter’s psychological state as she enters the Big Brother House.  She said ‘I fear it will drag her back down and ruin all the hard work she’s done.  I’m worried sick the pressure might push her over the edge.

The Daily Mail says that Kerry is being paid £300,000 to appear on the show and mentions Kerry’s very public fight with cocaine addiction.

A report on metro.co.uk states that Kerry said 'This is going to get me out of my bankruptcy. I get no maintenance. I've got four kids to raise, neither dad helps out or contributes in any way whatsoever, so I've got to work.'  But I would ask if there is any sum of money that can make risking your mental health worthwhile?

Kerry looks emotionally fragile and it didn’t take her long to open up too much to a fellow Big Brother housemate.  On the very first night Kerry spoke to Tara Reid saying ‘My first husband proposed after three weeks and my second husband, we don’t even want to talk about him, but we’re divorced.  He’s just a tit-head.’

Tara obviously did not understand what Kerry meant and asked ‘What’s a tit-out mean?’  To which Kerry replied ‘A tit-head! A knob!  He’s an idiot.’

The papers are baying for more of the same dialogue but I for one don’t want to watch Kerry crash and burn.  I hope that she is far enough down the road to recovery to be strong enough to withstand weeks in the spotlight.

Our thoughts also turn to her children who have had to watch their mother's crashes all too often and hope for their sake too she can hold it together under the pressure

On a personal note no amount of money would be enough for me to be locked in a confined space with Jedward!
