Victoria Beckham speaks out about bullying at school

Victoria Beckham is the latest celebrity to speak out about being the victim of bullying.  In the current issue of OK magazine she reveals the impact this has had on her life and how it still affects her today.

As an eight year old child Victoria says that she was skinny with a gap between her front teeth 'large enough to get a pea stuck in it'.  She says that she simply did not fit in with her peers at school but that this gave her a very thick skin and a determination to succeed.  She wanted to show them that she could be famous and 'that would make them sorry'.

Secondary school was hell, children would pick things up out of puddles and throw them at her.  Victory says ‘I just stood there on my own.  I didn’t have any friends.  People would push me around, say they were going to beat me up.’

The mental and physical bullying which Victoria suffered did not stop her, in fact it pushed her on to achieve fame and success.  Victoria says ‘if it doesn’t kill you it makes you stronger’.

Victoria considers herself to be lucky as she had a great family to support her through this difficult time.  When she was young she thought that fame would protect her from feeling empty and from feeling she was nothing.  Victory says that her heart goes out to anyone who is bullied – children can be so cruel.

If she could go back in time she says that she would tell her teenage self to have more confidence.  Victoria says ‘Listen to your inner voice not to the comments that other people make.’

Perhaps as a result of the bullying Victoria is now a perfectionist and a self-confessed control freak.  She says that she gives 110% when she goes to work and expects that from the people she works with.

Victoria spoke out in an OK interview after she won the Designer Brand Award at the British Fashion Awards in London.  After her successful life as a Spice Girl she turned her hand to her greatest love – fashion design.  Victoria says ‘To be recognised in this way in the company of Stella (McCartney), Tom (Ford) and Burberry was overwhelming.  It’s a dream come true to me.’

Victoria is married to David Beckham and they recently welcomed the birth of their first daughter, Harper, a sister for their three little boys.  May Victoria’s life continue to bring her the fame and happiness which she so craved as a child.
